Local Control vs Remote Desktop

This setup is intended for same-room control: a home theater PC, presentation laptop, studio computer, or desktop across the room. It does not create a full off-site desktop session. For remote work from another location, compare it with Windows Remote Desktop and Windows App or Chrome Remote Desktop.

If the PC Does Not Appear

  • Make sure Remote Helper is open.
  • Confirm both devices are on the same network and not separated by guest Wi-Fi.
  • Set a trusted Windows network to Private.
  • Allow Remote Helper through Windows Firewall on private networks.
  • Temporarily disconnect a VPN if it changes local routing.
  • Restart the helper and app, then try again.

Windows PC Control FAQ

Does it need internet?

No. Local control works without internet service when the PC and iPhone can communicate over the same Wi-Fi or hotspot.

Can I control a PC connected to a TV?

Yes. That is one of the main use cases: use the iPhone as the mouse, keyboard, and media remote for a living-room Windows PC.

Can it wake a sleeping PC?

It can send Wake-on-LAN to a saved PC, but success depends on the PC hardware, firmware, network adapter, power state, and Windows configuration. See Wake Windows PC from iPhone.
